Description

Hi,

I have been trying acpi4asus on my ASUS X50R, which is very similar to an F5 model (its detected as an F5 by the kernel module)

Everything seems to be working except the Backlight hotkeys which do not generate events.

I have attached the DSDT to this post and also an openoffice document showing what happens when I use the various hotkeys etc.

Laptop_ACPI.odt - Listing of events generated by all hotkeys, buttons and actions (12.1 kB) Anonymous, 07/26/2009 12:34 pm

acpi.gz - DSDT Dump following instructions on Wiki (42.6 kB) Anonymous, 07/26/2009 12:34 pm

dmesg.txt - dmesg output (29.4 kB) Anonymous, 08/21/2009 02:42 pm

.config - Config for Kernel (43.9 kB) Anonymous, 08/25/2009 05:04 pm

Can you also attach a dmesg ?
The backlight keys don't send events, but do they change the backlight ?
What kernel version ?

I will attach the dmesg in a second.

The backlight keys do NOT change the backlight. Pressing Fn+F5 for backlight actually just seems to generate a normal F5 as I just tried it with this window in the foreground and the page was refreshed.

Kernel is: 2.6.29 on Gentoo (2.6.29-gentoo-r5)

Can you send me your kernel configuration (usually /boot/config) ? Is CONFIG_ACPI_VIDEO enabled ?

Comment

Kernel .config Included.

This is my config based on the Gentoo r5 sources.

I can't actually see an option for Config_ACPI_Video.. Maybe this is the problem, though I can't see why Gentoo would have removed it.

ACPI_VIDEO depends on ACPI && X86 && BACKLIGHT_CLASS_DEVICE && VIDEO_OUTPUT_CONTROL && INPUT
Your CONFIG_VIDEO_OUTPUT_CONTROL is not set (Lowlevel video output switch controls)

Thank you.

It turns out that was the problem, the backlight control keys are now working. (they always were I guess and I just missed that option)

It looks like the X50R can be counted as a fully supported model (although it is detected as an F5R)

Thanks for the bug repport ;)

Perhaps the one issue left is that the laptop insists on putting the bluetooth light on on every boot..

This model doesnt have a bluetooth module.. so it should default to off, but that might not actually be an ACPI problem, and it can probably be solved by just telling it to turn off the LED.

I've added the X50R to the supported laptops page as well.

I'll double check with my girlfriends F5V to see everything works there and add that as well once I have checked.

Thanks for the awesome support.

I've been looking and it looks like the HWRS is responsible for the detection of Bluetooth/WLAN capability.

I have no idea how to read this value. The SFUN value if that is related is 0x200f7

The bluetooth LED can be switched off by echoing 0 to /sys/devices/platform/asus-laptop/bluetooth as expected.
